BMW launch 1998, which took place out of doors at Loews Coronado Bay Resort Hotel in San Diego, California.
The 750 seater amphitheatre was constructed on the hotel tennis courts as an elegant open air theatre.
The reveal itself was heralded by a fanfare of light and sound then magnetic catches were released on cue and the proscenium silk dropped, rippling down its Kevlar guide ropes revealing the three silk-draped cars upstage. This created the impression of the silk dropping to cover the cars. Wind machines, hidden beneath fan-decks built into the stage, started the car-silk billowing and again on cue the silk was drawn upstage revealing three BMWs, the central car then beginning to revolve.
